We’re open for breakfast, lunch and dinner; fuel up for a busy day in Ames with buffet and a la carte options ranging from steel-cut oatmeal to Dutch apple pancakes and our famed IowaStater Steak & Eggs.
Afternoon and evening options include savory Iowa Cheese Balls, juicy burgers, crisp salads and perfectly prepared seafood. Save room for one of our decadent homemade desserts, too! Independently owned and operated by Friends of Iowa State University, Gateway Hotel was established in 1978 and has always featured a restaurant that provides a unique experience for diners. The IowaStater Restaurant opened its doors in 2010, welcoming visitors to Iowa State University, returning alumni and residents of Ames and the surrounding communities into its warm and friendly atmosphere.
